CLTC has a campus in Lae which is located at Bowerbird street within the surburb of China Town. The centre was established in 1984 to address the challenges of reaching our towns and cities with the Gospel and of establishing strong churches which are able to minister effectively in the changing urban situation.

The centre offers the following training at Lae centre.

  1. Urban Ministry Internship Programme (UMIC)

The Urban Ministry Internship Programme (UMIC) is a part-time church ministries training programme designed to further equip lay church leaders who already have a recognised leadership ministry in their respective churches. UMIC participants must have committed support from their local church. The UMIC programme is designed to provide a 4-year cycle of modular studies, with a self-contained focus for each year. Modules 1and 3 are taught in odd calendar years. Modules 2 and 4 are taught in even calendar years.Year 1 and 2 students complete modules 1 and 2. Year 2 and 4 students complete
modules 3 and 4.
The UMIC programme involves participants in the following training programme:

  • 32 weeks each year (in four 8 week terms/quarters) with 2 courses per term
  • Students meet weekly for a two and half hour class Thursday evening and a three and half hour class on Saturday mornings
  • a two hour weekly meeting with a church appointed supervisor
  • a weekly church ministry assignment
  • This programme is different to many church training programmes in several ways:
  • It is specifically designed for urban ministry.
  • It is designed for those who are already actively serving in their churches and communities in the city.
  • The training takes place "on the job", in the midst of work, ministry and regular
    responsibilities.
  • The training requires a strong partnership between the student, the college and the
    church.
This includes appointment of a church "supervisor" who meets regularly with
the student to offer encouragement and to relate the class work to life and ministry.
